The Lobby by Sugar Brown’s

“Specialty with Sincerity” has been the motto of Sugar Brown’s since capturing the Lubbock community decades ago. 

Fast forward to 2020 and we think they’re doing a pretty bang-up job staying true to their values. 

Even though many local fans found themselves shedding a tear or two when the original location closed their doors in 2011, the support of a Kickstarter campaign sprouted a 19th Street location in 2015 which only helped perpetuate the Sugar Brown’s mission to be an active support system for downtown Lubbock. 

Unfortunately, the 19th Street location found itself facing closure once again in early 2020 amidst the throws of the coronavirus pandemic. But, even with an obstacle that could derail even the best of small businesses, the fire in the belly of Sugar Brown’s could not, and would not, be extinguished. 

The 2019 opening of Sugar Brown’s most recent location in the Wells Fargo building, aptly entitled The Lobby by Sugar Brown’s, has provided a platform for this small business to showcase their mission: to create and serve specialty coffees and in-house treats that echo an environment of human sincerity, community, and culture. 

The infrastructure of the Wells Fargo building alone is a well-intentioned and conscious location that places the beloved coffee shop staple in the middle of downtown Lubbock’s revitalization project. Also known as the Wells Fargo Center, the Wells Fargo building was completed in 1968, contains one of the largest fallout shelters in all of Texas, and as one of the tallest buildings second only to the historic Metro Tower, overlooks historic Lubbock.

History aside, The Lobby by Sugar Brown’s brings an elevated experience, an open atmosphere, and specialty coffee to all those living and working in downtown Lubbock. And to add a little “sugar on top,” Sugar Brown’s is already working to expand their mission with an Indiana Avenue location set to open in Fall 2020.
